When it comes to computer operating systems (OS’s), there are a plethora of choices to choose from. The three most popular being Windows, Mac, and Linux.

Windows is currently the most commonly used OS in both the home and business arenas. It is moderately priced, comes pre-loaded on most computers you purchase, and can be tweaked and configured by the user to a certain degree. Each version has had a variety of changes to its graphical user interface (GUI) allowing for a small variety of ways to get your work done.

Mac is usually pretty popular with graphic designers, photographers, many schools, and more. It can only be used on computers purchased from Apple, is not nearly as configurable, and is quite expensive. Over the years the main graphical user interface has remained pretty much the same, so it remains familiar. It is very stable, does not crash often, and because of the way it is designed, is harder to infect with viruses or malware.

Linux is an open-source operating system that comes in a large variety of available versions [called ‘distros’]. Most versions are absolutely FREE to download and install without restrictions. There are a variety of different graphic user interfaces to choose from and it’s highly customizable. It is also very stable, does not crash often, and is very  hard to infect with viruses. Most of the software programs you can get for it are free as well!

Virtualization

A virtual machine (VM) is a software implementation of a physical machine (ie. a computer) that executes programs just like a physical machine. So, let’s say you have a Windows 7 computer, but you wish to try the Linux operating system. You can create a virtual machine on your existing computer into which you can install Linux. You boot to it and use it just as if it were another computer. Or, let’s say a company needs to replace multiple outdated servers. Instead of purchasing 4 new physical servers, they could purchase one powerful physical server and virtualize the four different servers on that one machine. This is a substantial cost savings and is much easier to manage! We have experience working with proprietary systems like VMware or open-source solutions such as VirtualBox. A quarterly Maintenance Contract is a smart investment to keep your computers working efficiently. Pre-paid Service Contracts are available with hours that don’t expire at reduced hourly rates. You told us this is what you needed, and we listened!

Customers who have a service contract are entitled to higher priority service calls than those who do not. You are also entitled to emergency response service.
